Welingkar Institute of Management is an autonomous institute and all distance learning programs offered by it are autonomous in nature, but it is one of the few institutions whose distance learning programs have been accredited by Distance Education Council (DEC), a body of the Central Govt. of India.
Distance Education Council (DEC) has been set up by the Govt. of India under the IGNOU Act for assessment and accreditation of distance education institutes in India. An approved institute and its programs are stringently appraised by DEC with regard to its content, quality of education and its delivery systems. Hence, DEC approval ensures students about the quality of education and assures them about the standard of qualification which they earn from the Institute's distance learning programs.
Duration
This is 2 years, PG Diploma program offered in the distance learning mode. The curriculum is at par with the Distance Learning MBA offered by leading Universities. The two year program is divided into 4 semesters. The registration validity of these 2 year PG programs is 3 years. The registration validity is subject to payment of full program fees as per the payment schedule. While the program duration is of 2 years only, the additional one year is given to students to submit/clear all pending exams/project report.

The first two semesters are generic, common to
all and cover general topics of management. The last two semesters contain specialization related subjects.

Specialization
Second Year is for the specialization. There will be 6 subjects in Semester III & 4 Subjects + 1 Project Report in Semester IV

The student needs to completely clear at least 8 papers from the 1st year before she/he can proceed to the 2nd year. However students can complete their academic requirements at their own pace during the registration validity period.
Lateral Entry
Graduates who have joined Welingkar's 1 year Diploma program on or after Jan'06 and have successfully completed the same, can directly join the 2nd semester of the 2 year PG Distance Learning Program subject to the following terms and conditions:
- The course fees is Rs.35,000/- to be paid at the time of admission.
- Students will be able to complete the program in 1 1/2 years.
- Specialization will have to be chosen at the time of admission. Change in specialization is not permissible.
- Depending on the specialization chosen in 2 years PG Distance Learning Program, students will be given waivers in a combination of subjects, some from year 1 and some from year II. Thus, within one semester (6 months), students will give all the remaining subjects of Year 1 and thereby complete the 1st year of the program.
In every semester, for every subject, students are required to give one mid term exam and one end semester exam.
All other rules and regulations are the same as those applicable to regular students.
Dual Specialization
Students can register for Dual Specialization when they are in the fourth semester. They can obtain an additional specialization in any of the Ten specialization areas i.e. Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, General Management, Retail Management, Operations, Supply Chain Management, E-Business, International Business & Banking, Investment & Insurance after completion of the primary specialization. Every student seeking dual specialization must submit an application in the format available in the ”Notices Section” of the website giving their admission number, primary specialization and the dual specialization chosen along with the dual specialization fees.
Students can opt for an additional specialization, subject to the following terms and conditions:
- The course fee will be Rs.5000/- less than the 1 year fees applicable to the batch in which the student joins in.
- The course duration will be extended by a further period of one year. Thus students can complete the dual specialization within 4 years.
- Students seeking dual specialization will be required to complete the 3rd and 4th semesters of the additional specialization after completion of the primary specialization. The additional registration validity period of one year is given to students to complete any pending assignments/project report of the additional specialization.
- The course fee for dual specialization is inclusive of the exam fees. However the exam fee rules are the same as per the regular specialization.
Re-registration fees
Students who cannot complete the additional specialization within the registration validity period of 4 years (inclusive of primary and additional specializations) have to pay a re-registration fee of Rs.7,500/- for 1 year extension.
Fees for NRI/Overseas Students
An additional fee of US $500 would be charged for the additional specialization.* All other fees would be the same as applicable to that of primary specialization
Waivers Available To Dual Specialization Students
Dual specialization students will get waivers in subjects which are common in their primary and additional specialization.
The following table lists the subjects in which a dual specialization student will get waivers based on the primary specialization completed by the student.
LIST OF SUBJECT WAIVERS AVAILABLE TO DUAL SPECIALIZATION STUDENTS
Eligibility:
- Graduates from any recognized university.
- Diploma holders from any recognized polytechnic with 3 years of supervisory work experience post diploma.
- Final year degree student. However, their admission will be confirmed only on submission of the attested Xerox copies of their degree certificates/final year mark sheets within 60 days of admission.
- If a student has completed his graduation from an international university, then the University should be approved by AIU/UGC/IGNOU or by any other international associations like EQUIS, AACSB OR AMBA.
Enrollment:
- There will be four batches each year.
- First batch commencing from 1st January.(Admissions starting from November)
- Second batch commencing from 1st April.(Admissions starting from February)
- Third batch commencing from 1st July.(Admissions starting from May every year)
- Fourth batch commencing from 1st October.(Admissions starting from August every year)
- Duly filled in application form along with the enclosures must reach the institute on or before last date of submission.
- Specialization should be selected in Application form. "Preferred center for examination / PCP centers should also be selected in the Application form itself.
