Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research was established by the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali in the year 1977. It was named after Prof. L.N. Welingkar past Principal of R.A. Podar College and an eminent educationist. It is a part of the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, which has under its purview, 40 prominent institutions across the country. Some of their well known institutes are the Ruia College of Arts and Science (Mumbai), Podar College of Commerce (Mumbai) and S.P. College (Pune). The Institute has an equally efficient and well - endowed campus, situated in Bengaluru.

The research conducted by MDRA and Outlook placed Welingkar Institute Of Management among the top 25 in the country’s management institutes. The survey was on the basis of Industry Interface, Placements, Academic environment and Infrastructure. Welingkar ranks 8th in the private B-School category by Outlook in the B-School Survey 2008, 3rd in Student Exchange Programme category, 7th in Faculty Exchange Programme category and 16th in Top 50 B-Schools category.

ISO 9001 – 2000

Welingkar is the First A-Grade Management Institute to have obtained ISO 9001 –2000, certified by BVQI. The scope of the certificate includes the Mumbai University Master Level Program (Full time and part time) & All India Council for Technical Education recognized Post Graduate Programs, Autonomous Program designed by Welingkar and Management Development Programs conducted for corporates and all autonomous one year and six months diploma programs conducted by the Institute.
